The Wonderful World of Youtube: Fashion/Beauty Edition
Everyone knows Youtube. Anytime you need to watch the newest music video or show your friend a funny clip you “Youtube” it, watch it, then go back to your day; but what most people don’t realize is that there is actually a huge, thriving community and culture that is Youtube.
There is such a wider variety of Youtube videos out there today ranging from comedy, cooking, everyday vlogs, but my favorite are the fashion and beauty videos that both men and women around the world share with the Youtube community every single day.
Many people may at first be skeptical to watch these kinds of videos. They may sound silly or pointless to some. I often hear my friends say “Why would I want to watch a random girl talk about her favorite sweater?” or something similar, but in reality the people who make these videos are just sharing their interests and hobbies with other people who can relate. These dedicated individuals are just as passionate about the topics they discuss in comparison to a musician committed to their work or maybe an athlete motivated to reach their goals.
What i love about these beauty and fashion Youtube gurus is that typically they are just everyday people. They aren’t celebrities (yet) or professionals (most of the time) but rather they are everyday people expressing their opinions on products or expressing their personal style to
inspire other fashion-obsessed human beings everywhere. I like being able to hear honest, unbiased opinions of what cosmetics products are worth it and which aren’t.
I like being exposed to new, exciting makeup looks that I may have not thought of myself. I like seeing everyday people sharing their creatively stunning outfits that almost anyone could afford.
Another plus is that these Youtube gurus have such personable, bubbly personalities
that you actually WANT to watch them. They have a way of making it seem like they are personally speaking to you and only you. In a bizarre way, you feel like you are hearing fashion advice from a best friend.
Check out a few of my favorites, and remember: there are thousands of these gurus out there that you can find with all sorts of styles, looks, opinions, etc. These are just the gurus that I personally really admire:
A canadian guru now living in Europe, she has a very chic, simple yet very glamorous
style. She posts very helpful reviews on many popular beauty products and runs a really great blog. By the amount of followers she has, I think it’s safe to call her a success.
Maddie is adorable. Enough said. Her style is just as cute as her personality and her channel is in my opinion, a must-watch.
Though not as well-known as others, truenorthstyle, another canadian guru, has a very unique, laid back vibe to her. I actually don’t know how I ever came across her channel but I’m sure glad I did. Her style is very 90s and woodsy and I can’t get enough.
For those of you more interested in organic, natural and holistic practices, this channel is the one for you. As a vegan, Sarah posts recipes and natural health tips that are very intriguing. She only uses natural beauty products and can really help you get started in a more natural,
Jenn from Clothesencounters has got to be one of the most successful Youtubers out there. With hundreds of thousands of subscribers you know she’s doing something right. Focusing mainly on fashion, Jenn displays truly amazingly creative outfits that will make your jaw drop wondering how she
pulled them off and how you can do the same.
Other favorites of mine include the ever popular Zoella, Missglamourazzi and Claire Marshall. I also enjoy british guru Dolly Bow Bow, icovetthe and regular american college student Tayler Ward. Check them all out, I promise you won’t be disappointed!
