Making The Transition to Fall
1. Add a Sweater to Your Sundress
Definitely keep wearing all your cute sundresses, but for those chilly days add a light sweater. this will immediately change it to a more fall appropriate look.
2. Keep Your Sandals
Wear your sandals or any open-toed shoes for as long as possible. To make them more fall appropriate wear them with jeans, pants, or leggings. Definitely don’t pack them up just yet.
3. Don’t Wear Everything At Once
Sometimes you just have to make a decision. In this case, decide on the scarf, hat, or belt because less is definitely more. Pairing too many accessories will take your look from chic-fall to fall-fail.
4. Add Tights
By adding a pair of tights underneath shorts or a dress will create a more covered and seasonal vibe. They can be black opaque, patterned, or colored and you’ll be able to show just the right amount of skin.
5. Keep a Pop of Color
When getting wrapped up in fall fashion we tend to steer more towards darker colors like browns, mauves, and black. It’s important not to look too washed out by adding a pop of color from a pair of bright summer pants.
6. Add Leather
When I think of fall, I want to wear my leather jackets and leather leggings. Then pair it with leather boots. That might be overdoing it, so take your favorite summer outfit and just add a piece of leather.
7. Don’t Mix Socks & Open-Toed Shoes
This trend seems to be getting more popular. If you have cute sandals, wear the sandals. If you have cute knee high socks, pair them with some boots. Mixing the two can end up looking tacky.
8. Pair it With a Military Jacket
I’m convinced everything looks good with a military jacket. It’s the best lightweight jacket to pair with a dress, shorts, jeans, or a skirt. It’ll give any outfit that hint of fall we’re looking for.
9. Keep Your Summer Bag
White and pastel bags aren’t for summer only. Take your dark fall outfit and lighten it up with some contrast from one of your summer bags. It’ll bring life back into your style.
10. Layer Up
When in doubt, layer up. A sweater might be too sheer so wear a bralette underneath. A flowy tank might be too light so pair it with a chunky sweater. Add a cardigan to your button down top. There are endless ideas for mixing and matching summer and fall items to come up with the perfect layered look.
