Valentine’s Day Lingerie Survival Guide: Floral Appliques, Fuscia Lace, + Other Sweet Styles to Check Out This Holiday
Let’s face it: Most of us purchased our first Victoria’s Secret Bombshell Bra somewhere within the first two weeks of stepping through the doors of our high schools freshman year. Over the years that followed, we have all quickly grown accustomed to the battlefield that is the 7 for $26 sale bins, collecting the $10 off bras and free panty coupons that come in the mail as if they themselves were exclusive invites to the annual VS fashion show, and just about every pastel and neon shade of lace and spandex that one could possibly imagine. As Valentine’s Day quickly approaches, I’ve found my email inbox overflowing with advertisements promising “panties that’ll make him look twice” and “the sweetest and spiciest lace and nighties” (What does that even mean? Is that approved by the Board of Health? Do I really want to know?) - so whether you’re single and spending the night cuddled up with wine, Ryan Gosling movies and your best friends, or heading out on the town with your significant other, here are some brands to check out that won’t leave you feeling like every other girl in the mall.
1. FOR LOVE & LEMONS
For Love & Lemons offers some truly stunning ethereal, bohemian style lingerie pieces that are perfect for being layered under a floral kimono and dainty high-waist lace bottoms - whether you plan on showing them to anyone else, or just want to impress yourself with your own style choices. They first gained popularity on Instagram and the web with their classic Bat Your Lashes underwire bra, but have since expanded with the Knockout Bra and Antigua Dress as two other fan favorites. Their exposed lace details and tulle overlay, flower appliques, and criss-cross velvet bra straps combine forces to create a look that can cater to any style palette.
2. Lonely Lingerie
New Zealand-based Lonely Lingerie offers vintage style silhouettes and detailing reminiscent of those worn by Hollywood’s on-screen heartthrobs in the best romantic films of the 1950’s. I absolutely love their new Bonnie Underwire Bra, which comes in a pale mint green that would be super flattering to any of my fellow redheaded readers out there. The Lulu strap bra is also another favorite, with deep purple cups and lavender straps in absolutely royal hues.
3. Dita Von Teese for Bare Necessities
American burlesque dancer and model Dita Von Teese is well-known for her vintage siren style beauty, crazy curves and sultry pout - so it only makes sense that she would release a lingerie brand for any girls hoping to feel like a pin-up when they wake up every morning, too. The cool thing about Dita’s line is that she offers styles that are flattering for girls of all body sizes and shapes, specifically offering “full figure” bras to compliment the suspender garter belt sets and delicate lace eye masks. My favorite from her line is the cheetah print Tulip Bra - underwire style with silk tulip demi cups, it has a vintage vixen vibe but can also be worn under lower cut blouses or even t-shirts.
4. Free People Intimates
Odds are, you’ve probably already fallen madly in love with the flowing bohemian dresses, luxe leather jackets and lacy blouses from Free People if your radar for feminine and festival-friendly clothing is anything like mine-- so I guess it should not come as a surprise that this brand offers some gorgeous intimates that are actually priced affordably, too. With most bras around $48 and below, their Wishful Thinking Soft Bra with a lace-adorned T-strap back and Beat Still My Heart floral embroidered bralette are two sweet and slightly more conservative styles offered on the site right now.
5. Love Haus Love
I first found out about this California based brand when one of my favorite stylists on Instagram, pursenboots, posted their neon and nude lace combo bralette - I was immediately hooked. Their sexy black velvet bustier styles and black harness bra are perfect when you really want to add some badass vibes to an otherwise sweet, sultry look.
DISCLAIMER: Please remember that no matter how you’re spending your Valentine’s Day this year and no matter your body type - you are all beautiful. Love yourselves! Life is too short not to appreciate the body you were given, so take care of your body, soul, and mind to make the best of it. (If that means splurging on some of the pieces mentioned above for yourself - well, go for it!)
