Spring Cleaning: Revamp Your Makeup Bag

Spring is all about out-with-the-old and in-with-the-new; you clean out your closet, purses, kitchen drawers…but what about your makeup bag? Now, we at TRIM know asking you to toss makeup means adding some new goodies to the bag. Perhaps instead of tossing, simply temporarily taking some products out of rotation will help to freshen up your look as the seasons change.

Toss: Super heavy moisturizers or lotions

Replace with: As the weather warms, who needs heavy creams weighing you down? Switch out your extra-moisturizing face cream for a lighter lotion. But, when making the switch, be sure to keep in mind that SPF is a must!

Tip: Sometimes we invest in pricey products for our magnificent mugs. If you simply cannot part with a recently-purchased facial moisturizer, lessen the cream’s density by spritzing your face with rose water, mineral water spray, or the like after applying.

Toss: Thick and full-coverage foundation

Replace with: Lighter BB or CC creams are perfect for the warmer weather. Let’s face it, a face full of dripping makeup is not “in” for spring.

Tip: Not looking to spend your precious spring wardrobe cash stash on new face paint? Try mixing your current foundation with your moisturizer to attain a lighter look and sheer it out.

Toss: Dark lipsticks

Replace with: Okay, so maybe you shouldn’t totally neglect all your shadowy shades, but try (try, and try again) to add a new, lighter color to the mix. If you’re anything like me, you’ve likely been hung up on the wonderful wintry shades of dark reds and haunting purples. Vibrant lips will work wonders to refresh your look.

Tip: Stains are a great way to go dark while still creating a lighter look. Plus, it’ll look like you’ve been enjoying a delicious popsicle in the (almost) warm weather!

Toss: Lumpy old mascara

Replace with: A bright new tube! If you’re feeling daring, try something fun for spring and go for a colored mascara. The pop of pigment is unexpected and offers a fresh upgrade to your look. Plus, you may as well enjoy some sort of color while we (im)patiently wait for the flowers to bloom (hurry up Mother Nature!)

Tip: Looking to try out the look for less? If you already have colored liquid liner, it is the perfect alternative to colored mascara. Simply paint lashes with the liner brush to achieve a similar look!
