The Benefits of Green Tea

So I haven’t been the greatest fan of tea my whole life (I usually get weird looks about this because I’m Asian). However, I tasted green tea a few years ago and found it to be the only tea that doesn’t make me want to gag. Here’s the best part: it has tons of amazing benefits. I mean it’s called green tea - it has to be healthy right?!

Green tea is considered to be one of the healthiest teas in the world! It contains an insane amount of antioxidants which helps our cells! Green tea doesn’t oxidize like many other teas which means that it contains more antioxidants, specifically catchins. There have been several studies conducted that show that green tea can lower the risk of breast, prostate, and colorectal cancer.

Green tea can also help you concentrate during the day! On average green tea contains 25mg of caffeine, which is proven to help people stay awake and alert. Green tea does not have as much caffeine as coffee, but it’s better than no caffeine at all! Instead of added caffeine, green tea contains an amino acid called L-theanine. This and caffeine combined have been proven to improve brain function.

There is a misconception that green tea is magical drink that can help you shed those extra pounds-- that's not exactly true. However, swapping your soft-drink for a green tea could help save you 50,000 calories per year! That sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me. If you're not in the mood to drink water, drink some green tea! There have been conflicting studies debating if green tea actually improves metabolism, so I wouldn’t count on that since there aren’t any steady results. However, since green tea does give you more energy, you can use that energy to workout!

Basically, drink green tea guys! There’s literally no reason not to (well unless you don’t like the taste). It’s super healthy and it’s a great substitution for all those other sugary drinks. There’s a million ways to drink it, whether hot or iced, and the health benefits stay the same. Just don’t add sugar or milk because it can counter the benefits. So drink away my friends!
