Ciclovia: Play in the Streets of New Brunswick

Hey Readers, what are you doing this Sunday?! You might want to think about checking out Ciclovia, an event that’s one of the first of its' kind here in NJ.Certain roads in New Brunswick will be closed down to all traffic from 10 am to 3 pm on October 6th ; meaning you can literally do whatever you want in the street (assuming it’s legal, of course). Run, bike, roller blade, skip, or frolic your way down George Street. Bring your pets and go for a walk on College Ave. You could even have your very own Notebook moment without the fear of a car coming to ruin the moment (and/or run you over).

The event first started in Colombia, as Ciclovia translates to “bike way” in English. The goal was to get people up and moving right outside their front doors. It also aims to bring the community together, and why not celebrate the great city that is New Brunswick?

If you want to get involved or just feel like helping out, there are opportunities to volunteer for the event. In particular, the Student Volunteer Council at Rutgers is sending students to help New Brunswick Rec by being road marshals. The Rec center will also have a bunch of water stations and information kiosks telling you about different events happening throughout the day.

Fyi: If you usually park your car at any point along the route of Ciclovia, any cars left there on the day of the event will be towed. Take a look at the map here to see if this applies to you: http://newbrunswickciclovia.com/the_route.php

We hope to see you this Sunday!
