Friday The 13th Tattoos: Turning Superstition into a Celebrated Tradition
Happy Tuesday! For those who are superstitious, Friday the 13th only comes around once in a while and has been regarded as one of the unluckiest days of the year. Rather than stressfully avoiding every black cat and ladder (or the entire day for that matter), why not gather all your energy and excitement with new ink for just 13 bucks?
Tattoo parlors across the nation have turned Friday the 13th into a tradition by offering a selection of tattoos to customers for only $13 opposed to paying full price. The selection consists of tattoos about 2 inches wide and each one has the number “13” incorporated into the symbol. On September 13th I found myself waiting with friends outside of Revolver Tattoo located on Easton Avenue in New Brunswick, NJ. I was startled to see the line trailing far outside of the door onto the sidewalk. Although I, personally, was not planning on getting a tattoo, I felt the need to check out what the fuss was all about. I could feel the excitement and anticipation as customers patiently waited on line (some for even a few hours) for their new ink.
Some of the people waiting in line had tons of tattoos and others were new comers, but regardless of their past with tattoos everyone was there for the same reason.
Here are a few pictures of my friends new “13” tattoos:

After 4 hours of waiting, my friends eagerly chose their tattoos. The diverse environment around me was filled with thrill and enthusiasm as everyone compared their new ink with one another. The Friday the 13th tradition is something prominent within tattoo culture, but less talked about by people who are not tattooed.
Don’t worry if you missed out on September’s Friday the 13th tattoo, because Friday, December 13th is right around the corner! If you want to be a part of the tradition head over to Revolver Tattoo in New Brunswick and take a look at what all of the hype is about.
Forever on a whim
