A New Year, A New You

Everyone has a resolution for the new year-- most of which include ways to reinvent yourself. You don’t have to break the bank and buy a completely new wardrobe in order to shake your look up a bit, though. There are plenty of super easy ways to get in-tune with a new you, while still being true to yourself.

Change Your Eating Habits: Are you the taco belle? The burger king? We all know that we should eat healthy, but sometimes it’s hard to find the right motivation. Well, what better motivation than a fresh start in the new year? Sure, eating healthy can help you to finally get that “beach body”, but it’s also just plain good for you. When you’re eating right, your body has more energy, your skin is healthier, your hair is shinier… I could go on for days. It’s great to want to change what you look like externally, but sometimes you have to start from the inside out.

Accessorize: If you’re like me and barely wear any jewelry, changing it up a bit by wearing a statement piece can really get those compliments to roll in. That’s not to say you should completely abandon your own style, but sometimes it can be fun to do the unexpected.Try experimenting with bold colors in your makeup and wardrobe, work a red lip or flaunt a smokey eye. Guys, try wearing that beanie you got this holiday… you might be able to pull it off better than you originally thought you could!

Be A Better Person: Be kinder to the people you work with, hold the door for that person behind you, donate some of your old clothes. Sometimes doing something nice, no matter how small it is, can make you and someone else feel great. Find a charity you’re passionate about and spend some time volunteering. Not only is it great for the community, but it can be a really humbling experience as well. Who knows, 2014 might be the year you became the best possible version of yourself.

Change Your Hair: Now I’m not saying you should go out and buzz off all your lavish locks, but sometimes even a trim can change the way people look at you. Have you ever tried bangs? Maybe 2014 is the year you should! If you already have bangs, maybe try parting them the opposite way or clipping them back. Changes as small as these can make a huge difference. For the more adventurous of you, why not try dying your hair a shade darker? Better yet, why not dye it lime green!? (Okay, maybe not, but you see where I’m going with this…) Any changes you make to your hair will be quickly noticed by your friends and family, so it’s a great way to switch things up a bit without committing yourself to something permanent. After all, it’s just hair, right?

Buy Classics: If you received money this holiday season, it can be tempting to get as much bang for your buck as possible by shopping at stores where clothing is cheap and trendy. Stores like Forever21 and Love Culture are great for buying pieces that are current, but the quality of their clothes can leave something to be desired. Instead of shopping for quantity, shop for quality by pooling some of your money to get one amazing classic piece. Buy something you’d be comfortable wearing for a long time and make sure the fit and color are just right! When it comes to adding great classic pieces to your wardrobe, you’re getting what you pay for.

Changing is a crucial part of self-discovery. It’s important to try new things, whether it’s in terms of your fashion choices, the food you eat, or the decisions you make. Whatever you do, make sure that you’re not changing who you are or how you look for anyone but yourself! At the end of the day your opinion is the only one that truly matters.
