New York City is the place to be, and luckily for us Rutgers students it’s only a train ride away!

Concerts

  • CAZZETE- The Swedish EDM group will at Pacha NYC on April 17th. Tickets are available on Flavorous.com for about $25.

  • Lady Gaga- This pop mama will be at Roseland Ballroom and Madison Square Garden from March 28th to May 13th. She will also be having a show in Atlantic City in June. Get your tickets now before they sell out!

  • Grouplove/ MS MR/Smallpools- Terminal 5. Super cool bands. Only $32.50 via terminal5nyc.com.

  • Seaport Music Festival- Even though this starts in June, mark your calendar! Various indie artists play and the concerts are free of charge. Best Coast, Tokyo Police Club, the xx, Hot Chip, and other artists have played in the past. Keep your eyes peeled on their website to see the 2014 line-up! http://www.seaportmusicfestival.com/

Museums

  • Museum @ FIT- The well-known fashion school offers free admission to their museum with exhibitions such as “Fashion of the 1930s”, “Beyond Rebellion: Fashioning the Biker Jacket”, and many more.   • The Bronx Museum of Arts- Admission to this contemporary art museum is always free, woohoo! The museum always running exciting exhibitions and events such as film screenings, film festivals, and art workshops. http://www.bronxmuseum.org/

  • The Museum of American Illustration- Illustration students or hobbyists rejoice! This museum is free on Tuesdays from 5 to 8pm and is only $5 to students.  They offer lectures, workshops, film screenings, sketch nights, and many other exhilarating events! www.societyillustrators.org

  • Whitney Museum- If you are into modern American art, this museum is for you! Admission for students is $16, but with this admission the tours are free. The tour’s subjects vary from day to day, so visit the website to check out one that would interest you: http://whitney.org/

Attractions

  • The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon- See new Late Night host Jimmy Fallon at a live taping of the show! Free tickets are available via http://www.showclix.com/event/thetonightshowstarringjimmyfallon, however they do sell out super fast! Make sure to keep a lookout when tickets become available.

  • Free Tours by Foot- If you aren’t a savvy New Yorker, don’t fret! This free tour service (tips are allowed) provides walking tours through Downtown Manhattan, SoHo, Central Park, and more.   • Brooklyn Brewery- Want to learn and see how beer is made? Visit this 20 year old brewery on a Saturday to learn about the company and see factory for free! “Beer tokens” are $5 a pop or 5 for $20.  Visit their website for moe information: http://brooklynbrewery.com/visit

  • Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden- Located on Staten Island, NY, this arts center is filled with tons to do including free admission to their grounds and botanical garden.   • Socrates Sculpture Garden- Plan your next picnic here and enjoy a variety of outdoor exhibitions and an outdoor cinema series! With it’s beautiful relaxing atmosphere, view of Manhattan, and free admission to boot you can’t go wrong! http://www.socratessculpturepark.org/

  • Hell’s Kitchen Flea Market- Open every Saturday & Sunday (weather permitting) this flea market ranges from vintage Dooney & Bourke bags, to 1950s luggage.   • NYC Hot Sauce Expo- Taste test some of the spiciest hot sauces in the world March 29th & 30th at the Penn Plaza Pavillion! Cool of with some beer and  bloody mary competition! Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 the day of, and include unlimited taste testing of all hot sauces plus access to the many awards and competitions.   • Tribeca Film Festival- Located at Bow Tie Cinemas in Chelsea (and other various locations throughout the city) April 16th-27th.   • Five Boro Craft Beer Festival- With unlimited taste testings, live music and great food, what’s not to love?
