Godzilla 2014 Movie Debut
Godzilla is debatably film’s favorite city-destroying monster. The gigantic dinosaur is known for destroying Tokyo, Japan, and eventually other cities later on in his film career. Originally appearing in Ishiro Honda’s film, Godzilla became the most famous kaiju (“giant monster” in Japanese) in the movie industry. Following the success of his debut, Godzilla became a pop culture icon and starred in many proceeding films, video games, comic books, and novels.
A new version of the story, directed by Gareth Edwards and starring Bryan Cranston from Breaking Bad, will crash into theaters across the US on May 16th.
Every Godzilla storyline tends to be pretty similar with an occasional change of city. He is known for battling other kaiju like Mothra and Mechagodzilla in the middle of cities, most often Tokyo. In the 2014 version, our favorite monster targets New York City and seems to be bigger than ever. The trailer features a destroyed Statue of Liberty and what seems to be the Brooklyn Bridge.
The trailer for this movie makes Godzilla seem bigger and even more terrifying than ever before. With today’s animation capabilities, the creators are able to make this the most realistic Godzilla film yet.
The film can be expected to serve up large quantities of suspense and crazy action. Hopefully, it raises the bar for kaiju films. If it’s anything close to one of the most recent popular monster movies, Pacific Rim, this will be more than “just another Godzilla movie”. Let’s keep our fingers crossed in hopes that it is just as terrifying as the trailers make it seem!
