Celebrity Style Icons
We all know in the world of fashion, there will always be icons who inspire us to step out of our comfort zone, stand out or polish up. All celebrities have their own unique styles that are important to their image, and it is perfectly natural to let these unique styles inspire our own fashion sense. Even more inspiring is to see how fashionably these celebrities dress daily, when they aren’t modeling for the next biggest designer. Why can’t we do the same? So I have chosen four celebrity icons who have always been on top of their game, and suggested stores and tips that can help us channel their fabulous style in our everyday lives-without spending millions of dollars. Hopefully this guide will help you connect with your own personal “celebrity fashion soul sister”.
For: the exotic beauty with swag
Rihanna has always been able to portray that perfect blend of exotic, street and sexy. She is a risk-taker but never pulls anything too ludicrous or out there. In my opinion, of all of the top pop stars today, her style is the easiest and most logical to be inspired by. She rocks a tough street-chic look one day, and an exotic feminine bombshell look the next.
To channel Rihanna’s style, I would suggest:
- black crop tops (or crop tops in general...lots of them)
- ”boyfriend” jeans
- heels in neutral shades
- converse or toms
- sneaker wedges
- gold necklaces, bangles and earrings
- leather pants
- exotic floral prints
- basketball jerseys or jersey style jackets
- red lips
- mesh clothing
- oversized jackets over slinky tops
- “cat eye” glasses
(“Rhi Rhi” loves these…like she must own over 100 pairs. No lie.)
SUGGESTED STORES: Love Culture, Guess, Charlotte Ruse, H&M
For: the classy but cool girl
There is no young starlet more chic and composed than Emma Watson. However “sophisticated” her style may be though, she always tends to have a cool relaxed air about her that we can’t help but fall in love with. She has the whole “boy chic” thing down to a science, and has rocked short hair and blazers without losing an ounce of femininity. You are one posh chick, Em.
Let’s just take a moment and acknowledge the perfection of the image above.
To channel Emma’s style, I suggest:
- BLAZERS (most importantly)
- A-line skirts
- pastel sweaters (spring is here!)
- collared shirts and button downs
- business style anything in a feminine fit
- riding boots
- dainty spring cardigans
- skinny jeans
- ray bans
- form-fitting dress pants
- dressy heels (below six inches)
- fashion scarves
- a simple white button down shirt
- pearl earrings
SUGGESTED STORES: Forever 21, Macy’s, J. Crew, Arden B.
For: the hip grunge babe
Over the past few years, supermodel Cara Delevingne has become a fashion idol for girls everywhere, only enhanced by her wacky “I’m a model but I don’t care about being perfect” attitude. She has an effortlessly cool style that is so laid back yet awesome at the same time. She is 90’s grunge meets edgy supermodel...it’s pretty epic.
I mean….she’s just cool. I don’t know how else to say it.
To channel Cara’s style, I would suggest:
- fitted caps/sports team hats
- high top sneakers
- football style jackets
- BEANIE CAPS (her signature. props for a wacky animal or cartoon character one)
- speaking of cartoon characters, any sweatshirt or t-shirt with one on it
- motorcycle jackets
- combat boots
- vintage t shirts
- striped skinny pants or other patterns
- high-waisted oversized jean shorts
- shirts with witty slogans or abbreviations
- lots of rings
SUGGESTED STORES: H&M, GARAGE, American Apparel, Urban Outfitters
(this store is awesome by the way, I discovered it for the first time at the Lehigh Valley mall. I highly recommend it!)
For: the bohemian princess
Vanessa Hudgens has really come a long way since her conservative High School Musical days. She has really emerged as a bohemian style goddess and modern day hippie fashion idol. Her boho revolution has an earthy appeal but still is extremely sexy and fun. It’s especially great inspiration for the summer and any fun music festivals you may be attending.
Flower Power, FTW!
To channel Vanessa’s style I suggest:
- bandeaus galore in all kinds of prints
- round boho sunglasses
- high-waisted shorts and jeans
- maxi skirts and dresses
- tie dye wash shirts
- acid washed jeans
- flower crowns
- beaded embellishments
- floppy sun hats
- gladiator sandals
- flower sundresses
- fringed crop tops
- long necklaces
- remember, keep it earthy but SEXY
SUGGESTED STORES: URBAN OUTFITTERS, PAC SUN, FRANCESCA’S
