The Month in Review: February 2015

If you’re like me, you have a hard time keeping up with what is going on in the world. I always hear how important it is to be informed but I don’t usually take the time to do it. This past month, however, I have improved immensely and now I feel like my brain is exploding with information (in a good way!). I’ll share my tips with you later, but first, here’s what happened this past February!

1. First things first, let’s get this out of the way: The New England Patriots won the Superbowl against the Seattle Seahawks.

2. ISIS has been getting stronger than ever. They posted videos of beheadings and other violence.

3. President Obama made a new budget proposal.

4. The Ukraine conflict is trying to finally reach peace, it doesn’t look like it is going too well.

5. The Grammys happened. Here’s who won!

6. Jon Stewart announced he was leaving “The Daily Show”.

7. This one should be obvious, but it’s freezing cold outside! We reached record lows this month.

Now, here’s how to stay informed:

  1. TheSkimm: This is the best thing ever! You subscribe via email and then get an email every weekday about what’s in the news. There are links to more articles if you want to read more but in most cases their little blurbs are sufficient-- not to mention super entertaining. Sign up here: http://www.theskimm.com/

  2. BBC News App: Whenever you’re on the bus take a peek at the BBC news coverage. You’ll be totally up to date with everything, and since it’s on your phone there is no excuse not to look at it.

  3. The Targum: If you are just getting into reading the news, try starting off with our awesome University paper! It’s easy to read, everything will be relevant to you as a student, and it will get you in the habit of searching for news every day. Oh, and don’t forget to do the puzzles too.
